  • Condition: This is a folk art puppet that is in Very Good Shape for its age. The puppet was missing an arm, so I replicated one to the best of my ability. It needed a tiny bit of stitching, which I did by hand....the same as the original maker. The whole puppet was hand stitched in a fairly rough manner. This makes it a very unique piece of work. There is some fading on the side of the cape as well as the dress in the back. I think that the character that they might have aimed for is Little Red Riding Hood. Comes from a smoke free home. Please see all pictures as they are part of the description.

Vintage Handmade Folk Art Hand Puppet Cape Clothes Paper Mache Doll Hand Stitch
This is a charming, vintage handmade (hand stitched and hand painted) Folk Art Puppet.
The head is made of paper mache and the body is cloth.
I think this puppet is supposed to be Little Red Riding Hood.
Slight fading on the cape and in the back of the dress.
One of the arms had fallen out, so I re-created an arm to replace the missing one.
"Red" wears a lovely acrylic bead necklace and has red ribbons in her yarn hair.
She also has an underskirt for the hand to fit through.
I think that the most telling point as to the age of the puppet is the vintage safety pin that was attached to the puppet's clothing.  It doesn't have a spring coil at the bottom.  I really couldn't pinpoint the age according to the pin, but "guesstimate" it was probably around the 1940's.  (I read that during the war, when supplies were short, paper mache often took the place of rubber dolls for the war effort.)
