SLRLounge has a great writeup about it "Speedlight Video Light Introducing the LED Light Cube"
"Capitalizing on the ability link several lights together to form a lightbank,
IC12
has put together the
LED Light Cube Quad Pack
. The kit includes 2 Light Cubes and everything you need to make them work. Two carry cases are also included to store and transport it all.
The LED Light Cube IC12 is a unique 4x4x4" battery-powered Fresnel light source capable of delivering constant 5,600K daylight-balanced light in video mode or flash with accurate, consistent color temperature from a single LED source. While that's a significant feat, the Light Cube's level of output control of both flash and constant light modes is what makes it notable.
The Cube's push button LCD back panel allows power variation from 1/1 to 1/128 power, with negligible color shift. The continuous light mode is highly symbiotic with the flash mode, in fact it does double duty as a modeling light that shuts down when the unit is firing at flash durations from a 1 second "paint with strobe" speed to an action freezing 1/8,000 sec. at bursts up to 15 frames per second. This wide flash duration range is available regardless of the power level in use.
The LED Light Cube is powered by an internal, removable and highly stable lithium polymer battery that gets up to 45 minutes full power run time in constant video mode, up to 800 full power flashes in flash mode and 3,000 pops at minimum power. The included multi-voltage charger tops up a depleted battery in 2-3 hours.
Finally, besides these impressive attributes, the LED Light Cube is stackable. You can easily go from 300 to 600 to 1,200W by simply adding cubes to form a lightbank. The Cube's in/out ports allow you to daisy chain them together in a Master/Slave configuration and control them all from one unit triggered by a hard-wired or radio equipped camera.
Flash and continuous light control, multi-unit flexibility and a wide range of user-selectable flash durations are all bundled in a 4 x 4 x 4", 1.65 lb package that gives you a myriad of creative choices. You just need to add the inspiration."
